GMA Network Inc. has booked over P7 billion worth of advertisement contracts this year and expects revenues to breach the P13-billion mark registered last year.
“By December of last year, we have already booked over P7 billion worth of ads for this year from 10 big advertisers. This is already more than half of our target revenues for 2011,” GMA Network chairman and chief executive Felipe Gozon told reporters at the sidelines of GMA News TV channel launch late Monday.
“For the first time, we started negotiating [for the following year’s ads] as early as November,” he said.
Ten advertisers with big volume accounts signed up with GMA in December last year, he said. He added that one major advertiser that boycotted the network went back and signed a bigger contract. He did not name the account.
Gozon said the network would again increase its advertising rates in March to make them at par with rival ABS-CBN Corp.
“I don’t want to sell any more ads below Channel 2’s price,” he said. “We are very optimistic with Channel 7. We have booked very good revenue figures for January and for the first few days of February,” he said.
Gozon said that Channel 7 had maintained a small lead in nationwide ratings and a comfortable lead in Mega Manila and Luzon.
GMA Network posted over P2.8 billion in net income last year, up 2 percent year-on-year but short of the company’s initial target of P3 billion. Revenues reached P13 billion in 2010.

TV cover okayed for MJ's doc trial
Television cameras will be allowed to film the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson's doctor next month as long as they do not interfere with proceedings, a judge said on Monday.
Los Angeles Superior Court judge Michael Pastor also moved forward the date of Dr Conrad Murray's trial by four days to March 24, when jury selection will begin. The trial is expected to last about six weeks, lawyers for both sides say.
Murray has pleaded not guilty, and is free on bail. He faces up to four years in prison if convicted. Involuntary manslaughter is defined as unintentional killing without malice, and is a lesser charge than murder.
Pastor said he wanted the "absolute least intrusive placement" of a TV camera in the courtroom and he sought detailed proposals from local news crews. He also blocked cameras from broadcasting jury selection.
Chris Martin very upset over split
Chris Martin has been left heartbroken after his parents decided to end their 30-year marriage and sell the family home, according to reports.
The Coldplay singer’s mother Alison has left the marital home in Devon, west England to rent an apartment in London, while Martin’s father, Anthony, has started a new relationship.
The hitmaker, who is married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow, is said to be even more upset because his parents have put the house where he spent his childhood up for sale.
A source says, “One of the most upsetting aspects of the break-up has been their decision to sell their family home. He was less than one year old when his parents moved in, and the house holds a lot of memories for him.”
“Bulong”, Star Cinema’s horror comedy film, topped Philippine box-office
“Bulong”, Star Cinema’s horror comedy film, topped Philippine box-office last week with a haul of P33.25 million in first 5 days.
Starring Vhong Navarro and Angelica Panganiban, “Bulong” is Star Cinema’s opening salvo for 2011 and the first local mainstream movie to be screened this year after the Metro Manila Film Festival.
Star Cinema’s previous horror films earned higher in their first 5 days of showing. “Cinco” which was shown July last year had an opening gross of P38.59M while the MMFF entry “Dalaw” earned around P50 million. However, the P33.25 million opening weekend gross of “Bulong” is not bad at all.
“Bulong” bested 3 Hollywood movies which also debuted last week: The Rite (#3), Burlesque (#4) and the Warrior’s Way (#9). It was also the grand opening week of “Tangled” after its 3D debut last 2 weeks ago.
Melason, celebrated their first anniversary as a real-life couple
Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco, more popularly known as Melason, celebrated their first anniversary as a real-life couple on Tuesday, February 8.
In a short exclusive interview with Yahoo! Southeast Asia after the “Happy Yipee Yehey!” press conference at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN the same day, Melai shared some of their anniversary plans for the day.
"Aalis kami ngayon dahil anniversary namin ngayon. Nag absent siya sa ‘Banana Split’ dahil mag-de-date kami. Ako rin after dito [presscon] go na ako, mag-bonding bonding," an excited Melai told Yahoo Southeast Asia.
They also have simple plans for Valentine’s Day but Melai chose not to divulge too many details.
Aside from her colorful love life, Melai also has a flourishing career. She and Jason will star in their new teleserye “Mana Po.” Melai is also part of ABS-CBN's noon time show “Happy Yipee Yehey!” and another Kapamilya program, “I Dare You” with Jericho Rosales and Iya Villana.
With all that's been happening in her life right now, has Melai realized how successful she has become since her “Pinoy Big Brother” days?
"Ni-register ko na talaga yun sa sarili ko dahil kahit hindi pa nag-re-register sinulat ko na talaga yun in ink. Mahalin mo lang at i-love mo lang [ang trabaho] dahil andiyan din naman si Jason inspirasyon mo. So wala namang problema," added Melai.
To give way to her hectic schedule, Melai left “Banana Split.” Melai said she was saddened by her exit from the daily gag because she had grown close to the program's staff and crew.
"Naiyak ako nung umalis ako sa ‘Banana Split’ dahil kailangan na umalis (dahil) marami na (akong shows)," she said.
“Happy Yipee Yehey!” will start to air on February 12 Saturday. The grand pilot episode will take place at the Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig.
ATTY. FELIPE GOZON TACKLES HIGHER DEMAND FOR NEWS
“Ang tingin namin maraming may gusto ng news talaga.”
This is what GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon said when asked why he thinks there is a need for an all-news channel like GMA News TV.
To explain this, Gozon used TV5's “Willing Willie” and GMA 7's “24 Oras” as an example. “24 Oras” airs during the first hour and half of the Willie Revillame-hosted game show.
“We maintained ‘24 Oras.’ And as you know, ‘24 Oras’ is winning over ‘Willing Willie.’ Eh, news yan. So there are people who prefer to watch the news, yung talagang pinaniniwalaan at may credibility,” he told members of the media during the GMA News TV trade launch at the A. Venue Events Hall on Monday, February 7.
Gozon added, “From the beginning, miske na namigay ng kotse si Willie, talo pa rin. Nagbigay ng house and lot, talo pa rin.”
But more than the demand for news, Gozon said GMA News TV serves “to make a possible contribution to the bottomline” of the network's income and to create a possible international channel.
“Ang basis nyan e we are very strong in news and public affairs. Nagkataong hindi kumikita itong QTV. So this is our effort to convert QTV into something that we think will be a winner and in order to create a new international channel. Ang tingin namin yung mga Filipinos abroad are hungry for more frequent news from the Philippines,” he explained.
More than just news
GMA News TV, however, will be more than just an all-news channel. The revamped free-to-air VHF channel will also feature a number of lifestyle and reality shows, as well as a showbiz-oriented talk show.
For instance, the channel will have a make-over show titled “Fashbook,” hosted by Solenn Heusaff and a reality show titled “The Smiths,” featuring the family of rock legend Joey “Pepe” Smith. Kapuso actress Rhian Ramos, meanwhile, will host “Spotlight: The Showbiz Newscast.”
Other lifestyle shows include Ramon Bautista's “(May) Tamang Balita,” Drew Arellano's “Weekend Getaway,” and Tonipet Gaba's “Pop Talk,” among others.
“There will be public affairs, there will be lifestyle. Ang mawawala dyan yung mga drama. Mga soap, wala na. Channel 7 lang yun,” Gozon explained. Although Q Channel 11 aired lifestyle shows, Gozon said the GMA News TV lifestyle programs will be “more serious.”
The network's main fare, of course, will be their news programs.
Jessica Soho will lead the channel's flagship news telecast, “State of the Nation with Jessica Soho.” She will also headline “Brigada,” a modern reiteration of the 90s news magazine show “Brigada Siete.”
Mike Enriquez's dzBB morning radio program will also have a live simulcast on GMA News TV. Renowned documentarist Kara David and GMA News online editor Howie Severino will host the network's morning news show, “News to Go.” Philippine Center of Investigative Journalism's Malou Mangahas, meanwhile, will headline “Investigative Documentaries,” together with Newsbreak's Marites Vitug and PCIJ's Ed Lingao, among others.

Find out if they will escape Margarita’s wrath as the show that has heated up the nights of viewers for almost six months closes this week.
Meanwhile, Zanjoe shared that it has been hard for him to believe that their program is about to end.
His leading lady, Cristine, said the show has been a very good experience as she learned a lot from her peers, the staff, and their director Rory Quintos. “Pinaka-importanteng natutunan ko is yung pagmamahal sa trabaho. Kasi si Direk Rory, importante sa kanya yung on-time lahat ng tao. Siyempre hindi ka magpapakita sa taping na hindi mo alam kung ano na ang nangyayari sa character mo, sa kuwento. Dapat memorized lahat ng linya at naintindihan ng lahat yung kahalagahan at punto ng bawat eksena,” shared the Jewel of Romance.
Cristine said parting ways with the group is like entering a long-distance relationship. “Kumbaga matibay na yung relasyon ninyo. Tapos siyempre biglang off-air na. Para kang nasa long-distance relationship. ‘Yung alam mong nandiyan pa yung samahan, pero hindi lang kayo magkasama,” she explained.
Asked what she will miss most about the show, she said, “yung off-screen kulitan namin ng mga cast. ‘Yung pag-aalaga ng mga kasamahan ko sa akin, bilang kaibigan at bilang ka-eksena. Sobrang mami-miss ko yun.”
Don’t miss the electrifying last week of the epic TV adaptation of the country’s number one pocketbook series, “Martha Cecilia’s Kristine,” after “Imortal” on ABS-CBN.

Being more brute Dingdong Dantes
It seems like mini-theater venue which is brick-taping the cast of "I Heart U Pare, they simultaneously watched the pilot telecast of their series last Monday. Temporarily halted an hour to watch the taping, its pilot telecast hosted by Dingdong Dantes and Regine Velasquez.
Regine Velasquez as the funny few minutes before airing the series, she had called her honey with Ogie Alcasid to remind them to watch her show. `By the time she felt it had also at the taping with Ogie Bubble Gang.
Anyway, rather than the note itself, the efficiency of Tirso Cruz III as the queen she noticed in the series. Regine believe praises to Pip.
We also, we noticed being more brute Dingdong, things that matter to its rugged look. We remember going cool character of Robin in the film .
Toni-Vic movie cancelled due to noontime show "Happy Yipee Yehey!,
Something's got to give.
In earlier reports, Toni Gonzaga announced that she and veteran comedian-host Vic Sotto will be doing a movie this year. However, because of Toni's inclusion in the new ABS-CBN noontime show "Happy Yipee Yehey!," the reunion film will no longer happen.
The Kapamilya show will be on the same timeslot of "Eat Bulaga!," the noontime show on GMA-7 that Vic continues to host. In the local entertainment industry, talents from competing television shows on rival networks are normally prohibited from engaging in showbiz projects; a policy stipulated in their talent contracts.
"Yeah hindi na siya tuloy, because of this (Happy Yipee Yehey!). So, ganoon po talaga, maraming mga bagay na kung hindi para sa 'tin hindi para sa 'tin. Yung kay Robin hindi na tuloy, tapos ito (movie with Vic) medyo nasasanay na rin naman. Pero ang maganda naman kaya hindi natuloy dahil may magandang kapalit din naman. So tingnan na lang natin yung good effect," Toni told entertainment reporters in a press conference at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN on Tuesday, February 8.
The singer-host-actress added that she waited six years before accepting an offer to host a noontime show in deference to her former "Eat Bulaga! dabarkads." Toni was given her first hosting break on the longest-running variety show in the Philippines.
"I remember si Willie Revillame nung bago pa lang ako sabi niya, 'Mag Wowowee ka na, i-try mo na.' Sabi ko, 'Respeto na lang dun sa dati kong kinabibiliangan.' I've waited six years, tapos nung dumating po itong opportunity na ito parang I think it's a blessing na rin siguro. Ang hirap na ring tumanggi kasi I'm taking it as a blessing para mapagkatiwalaan din ng management."
Time management
Toni could very well be the most visible celebrity in the Kapamilya network. Her regular hosting stints in "ASAP Rocks" and "The Buzz" on Sunday will be capped by a daily noontime show- a lineup making her appear on air each day of the week.
So how will Toni manage her time and address the issue of overexposure?
"Yung schedule po mag-aayos ng management. Yung sa overexposure po hindi pa naman po lumalabas yung noontime show ang alam ko po magagawan ng paraan yung ibang mga programa kung saan kasama ako. Yung management po yung nag-decide sa akin na mag-noontime show so sila na lang po ang mag-aayos ng proper management ng oras," answered Toni.
On snubbing issue
Toni also addressed a tabloid report that claimed Toni snubbed some fans in Antipolo, Rizal when they asked to be photographed with her.
Hayden Kho Denies referring to Megastar's Billboard
Hayden Kho Jr. clarified that the alleged tweet he posted on his Twitter account was not about Sharon Cuneta and her Marie France billboard along EDSA.
Hayden tweeted on Wednesday, February 9: "Wow! i wasn't referring to the MF (Marie France) billboard. I was referring to a "L**D" that's supposed to be a LOURDES. Dahan dahan naman po."
"That was quite a wounding tirade from someone i respect. Ironic, really. Very ironic," he added.
Leah Salterio, Hayden's publicist, told Yahoo! Southeast Asia through a text message also on Wednesday: "Please follow Hayden's tweet. He wasn't referring to Sharon's Marie France billboard."
In a Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) report, Sharon reacted to Hayden's January 28 tweet: "There's a billboard ad in Edsa developed by advertisers who think consumers are stupid. Guess."
"Kanina ko lang narinig. Tweet daw niya (Hayden), e. Sa Twitter daw. Kung tooo yun, ang kapal ng mukha niya!, " Sharon said.
"Decent people are [the only] people I would like to listen to. Not those who do not know the meaning of decency. And who treat women like they're nothing! Excuse me!," she added in the PEP article. "You know, you want to start a war with me? You? Fix all your problems first!"
Debutante Empress ready for 'mature' roles
Dropping her last name is not just one of the changes that the "Empress of Drama" is facing.
Empress Schuck, now simply called Empress, will soon be turning 18, a transition that will soon allow her to accept more serious and mature roles.
"Siguro po kasi halos lahat naman ganun talaga pag nag 18 na, kailangan na po talaga makita yung transformation yung pagiging mature so sa akin po ganun din po. Tatanggap na naman po ako ng more mature roles. Hindi na po katulad dati na paulit-ulit yung ginagawa ko and pa-cute, pa-cute lang pero ngayon po yung mga hindi ko po medyo nagagawa,...medyo magagawa ko na," Empress told Yahoo! Southeast Asia during the press conference for her upcoming debut on February 20.
Aside from being ready for more mature roles, the young actress added that she can now accept suitors. However, getting into a relationship is not part of her immediate plans especially now that she is prioritizing her family and career more than anything.
"Siguro po ngayon masasabi ko po na pwede ng may manligaw, kung baga kasi 18 na ako. Ang pangit naman kung ngayon ayaw mo pang magpaligaw pero hindi po ibig sabihin na magkakaboyfriend na po kaagad ako kasi wala pa po sa isip ko yun," Empress said.
The debutante also shared her birthday wishes with entertainment reporters who were present during the press conference.
On February 20, Empress will celebrate her birthday at the Grand Terrace and will be wearing a Pepsi Herrera gown. Her closest friends and co-workers in and out of show business are in her guest list including Churigogobaschu, Robi Domingo, Enchong Dee, Felix Roco, Matt Evans, Ejay Falcon, Aaron Villaflor, and Isabelle Abiera. Richard Poon, 3AM and The Voizboyz are also her guest performers. The debut will have a rocker chic theme, with pink and black motif. Empress, with the help of Star Magic and her numerous sponsors will be funding the celebration.
Empress dropped her last name for better screen name recall and to follow Feng Shui suggestions.
Empress on 'Shoutout' teens
Empress is one of the hosts of the reinvented teen show, "Shoutout Level Up." How does she feel about the show's effort to further improve in the hopes of maintaining the program's airing?
"Nakaka-sad dahil hindi na kagaya dati na sama-sama kami parati nag-e-enjoy lang kami. Kasi ngayon kailangan talaga pag-igihan nila, kailangan mag-work hard sila. So masaya na rin ako kasi para sa kanila din yun eh para hindi lang sila papetiks petiks para pag-igihan na rin nila yung trabaho nila para malaman nila na 'ay yung artista pala hindi lang laro-laro' pinaghihirapan talaga," Empress explained.
Meanwhile, the young actress is mum on the alleged brewing romance between Erich Gonzales and Enrique Gil.
"Bat umamin ba sila? Di ko naman alam kasi. Lahat kami dun close, lahat kami dun nag-uusap-usap so hindi ko talaga napapansin kung sino talaga yung may something. Siguro pareho silang friendly."
Rhian to host new showbiz talk show
Rhian Ramos will be part of the new GMA News TV hosting the Kapuso network's all-news channel's showbiz-oriented talk show, "Spotlight: The Showbiz Newscast."
This puts her in the league of Pia Guanio, Rufa Mae Quinto, Mo Twister, Maxene Magalona, Ruffa and Raymond Gutierrez, KC Concepcion, Toni Gonzaga, and Charlene Gonzales--showbiz personalities who deliver entertainment news and, at times, are also in the news.
So what would Rhian do if she has to do a report on an issue that concerns her or is connected to her? For instance, how would she do a report on TV5 host and rumored boyfriend Mo Twister?
"I think it's either ako or baka kay Nelson Canlas or Aubrey Carampel kasi baka weird kung galing sa akin," she said in an interview during the GMA News TV trade launch on Monday, February 7, at the A. Venue Events Hall in Makati City.
She added, "At lahat naman ng mga actors and actresses, kahit sila mismo ang nagbabalita minsan, hindi sila exempt di ba? Hindi naman sila mga untouchables. So kahit naman ako pwedeng ibalita."
Serious news
Rhian explained that "Spotlight" would be different from the existing showbiz talk shows today because they will deliver showbiz news in a serious manner. "Yung style ng show namin, iba sya kasi ibabalita namin yung showbiz news kung paano binabalita yung regular news," she said.
Rhian said the show will be handled by the GMA News and Public Affairs team. "So lahat ng researchers namin, very experienced. Alam nila kung anong ginagawa nila and gusto namin idala yun sa mundo ng showbiz na kung paano kami magresearch sa ibang mga issue o bagay, ganun din ang mabibigay naming detalye sa showbiz news," Rhian elaborated.
"Marami naman akong mga kaibigan na host din ng mga sarili nilang showbiz oriented shows. Si Maxene Magalona, si Mo Twister, si Ruffa Gutierrez, Raymond Gutierrez, Pia Guanio-they're all my friends and paminsan minsan laman ako ng balitang binabalita nila. At least marami akong kaibigan na ganun din ang ginagawa. Matatanong ko sila, mabibigyan nila ako ng advice. And I think naman makakahanap din ako ng balance katulad ng kung paano nila ginawa," she added.
But her new role as a showbiz talk show host doesn't mean she'll give up her career as an actress. Being the host of "Spotlight," she said, allows her to explore one of her passions. After all, Rhian was once a host of her own lifestyle show in a cable channel back when she was still starting out in show business.
"Actually, before pa naman, isa sa mga love ko, isa sa mga passion ko, is hosting. Ito ang isang paraan para magawa ko yun... At least dito makakapaghost ako lagi pero in a more serious platform kasi news broadcasting sya," she said.
"Spotlight: The Showbiz Newscast" premieres February 28.
John Estrada out of TV5 sitcom, variety show
The conflict between celebrity friends John Estrada, Randy Santiago and Willie Revillame is far from over.
In fact, the tension escalated to new heights after John, who is part of the regular cast of "Everybody Hapi" on TV5, has been removed from the program.
"Ang masakit lang po, e, noong ipinaglaban ko, bigla pong sinabi sa akin na aalisin na ako sa programang 'yon," John lamented during the press conference of "Happy Yipee Yehey" on Tuesday at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN.
He added that because of what happened, he decided to resign from his other show, the Sunday noontime variety program "PO5."
"Sa PO5 po, I had to resign. 'Yung sitcom ko po sa TV5, nalaman ko lang that management decided na aalisin na po ako. Hindi naman po siguro tayo... Kung alam naman po natin kung paano mag-isip, we can read between the lines."
Before he accepted the offer to host the noontime show "Happy Yipee Yehey!" on ABS-CBN, John made it clear to ABS-CBN Channel 2 chief Cory Vidanes and Entertainment TV head Linggit Tan that he has no intentions of leaving his regular stints in TV5.
"At sinabi ko roon sa lamesang 'yon, (during a lunch to discuss details of the noon time show) 'Pasensiya na po, hindi ko puwedeng iwanan [ang TV5] dahil sila ang nagbigay sa akin ng sitcom na matagal ko nang hinihingi dito [ABS-CBN]," said John. "Hindi namin iiwanan ang Channel 5. We're doing this one, ‘Happy, Yipee, Yehey!,' pero ibalato n'yo na po sa amin 'yon," added John, recalling what happened during the meeting with the ABS-CBN executives.
However due to the sudden turn of events, John decided to end ties with TV5. Even the exclusive coverage of his upcoming wedding with Brazillian model Priscilla Meirelles will be granted to ABS-CBN.
"Kausap ko po 'yong ibang boss ko sa TV5, sinabi nila sa akin na gusto nilang ituloy 'yon. Pero nakakatawa po 'yon dahil, isipin n'yo po, sila ang magko-cover ng kasal ko, 'tapos biglang, ‘Okay, ha. Thank you, ha, wala ka na next week.' Hindi na rin makakatotohanan 'yon di ba." John revealed. "Sinabi ko sa kanila, although hindi ko pa napipirmahan ang kontrata namin, sinabi ko, 'Pagpasensiyahan n'yo na, pero kung gano'n naman po, ibibigay ko na sa ABS-CBN 'to,'" he added.
On TV5 offer
Both Randy and John clarified Willie's claim that it was TV5 who made the first offer to host a noontime variety show.
John and Randy emphasized that there was never a concrete offer from TV5 and that the conversation was merely among friends.
"Usapang kaibigan 'yon, na parang ang dami na naming pinag-usapan na gano'n [shows, projects], na hindi naman natutuloy. So, doon lang po kami nanggagaling... Kung magbabarkada po ang nag-uusap, kapag sinabi, 'O, ako na ang bahala sa inyo, ha?' Ganoon lang kasimple 'yon. It was never concrete po. Noong nilapitan po kami ng ABS-CBN, that was something concrete. Siyempre po, pag-iisipan namin nang maigi 'yon," said John.
During those informal discussions, they conceptualized an upcoming TV5 program called "For The Boys," which was supposed to star John, Willie, and the rumored Kapatid transferee Aga Muhlach, Randy said. He added that it was uncertain if he would also star in the show or direct the program.
"Nire-ready namin 'yong ‘For The Boys'-si John, si Aga [Muhlach], si Willie, at saka ako, as artista or I'll direct the show...So, 'yon po ang pinag-uusapan na medyo inaayos namin noong kausap namin sina Aga," Randy added.
But when the "concrete" ABS-CBN offer came, John and Randy signed on despite a counter-offer from TV5.
This, John and Randy said, understandably hurt Willie and his on-air tirade on "Willing Willie" last January 26 was his reaction as a friend and not "power tripping."
"Power tripping?
For Randy, he leaves it to the public to decide on the issue.
"Sa mga threads, sa mga comments, makikita ninyo puro gano'n, puro 'bastos' [si Willie] Pero sa amin, kahit gano'n ang nararamdaman namin, it never came out of our mouths, di ba? Kami na ang bahalang umintindi."

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Justin Bieber superfans don't have to wait until the official Friday release date to see his new 3D concert movie.
Tapping into the teen idol's widespread fanbase, Paramount Pictures and 3D firm RealD are hosting sold-out special screenings of "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" at 300 theaters across the country Wednesday night.
The 60,000-plus tickets were scooped up weeks ago at $30 each, bringing in about $2 million. Only $1 million will be reported as box-office revenues. The rest will be reported as merchandise, such as special purple 3D glasses (purple is the performer's favorite color).
To market the screenings, Paramount used social networking media like Twitter and Facebook, where millions of Bieber fans around the world share their passion for the youngster.
"Never Say Never" will expand on Friday to more than 3,000 theaters. It isn't a strict concert documentary like "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" and "The Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience," since it also includes biographical information about Bieber's Youtube-field rise to stardom.
"Hannah Montana" debuted to $31.1 million, and "Jonas Brothers" just north of $12 million. "Never Say Never" should debut somewhere in between.

Lohan to be charged with theft of necklace
Los Angeles: Prosecutors said Tuesday they plan to charge Lindsay Lohan with felony grand theft of a $2,500 necklace reported stolen from a jewelry store last month - the most serious count the actress has faced in more than three years of trouble with the law.
District Attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison said the charge will be filed Wednesday. Lohan, 24, is due in court for an arraignment on Wednesday afternoon.
Los Angeles police said Feb. 2 that Lohan was under investigation for taking a necklace from a Venice store later identified as Kamofie and Co. Detectives obtained a search warrant to try to retrieve the item from Lohan's home, but it was turned in to a police station before any search was made.
Police said they had no update on the case Tuesday and did not say whether the actress had made arrangements to turn herself in at court or at a police station.
Robison said bail would be decided by a judge.
A phone message to Lohan's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, was not immediately returned. Holley has previously denied any wrongdoing by Lohan.
"We vehemently deny these allegations and, if charges are filed, we will fight them in court, not in the press," Holley said in a statement released Saturday.
Arrested twice in 2007, Lohan was charged with drunken driving and drug possession, but both were misdemeanors.
The "Mean Girls" star has been jailed three times in that case, but has been granted a quick release due to jail overcrowding and a requirement that bail be set on misdemeanor cases.
Lohan remains on probation for drunken driving, and a judge has threatened to throw her in jail if she runs into trouble again.
Prosecutors in Riverside County have been considering whether to press charges against Lohan for a December altercation with a worker from the Betty Ford Center, where she was being treated.
The treatment, her fifth rehab session, came after she admitted failing a drug test shortly after being granted early release from another treatment program.
Lohan's court struggles and treatment have taken a serious toll on the former Disney star's career. Her role as porn star Linda Lovelace in a biopic was recast last year while Lohan was at Betty Ford and no replacement projects have been announced.
She had been due in court on Feb. 25 for a probation status hearing and a judge had said he would be willing to loosen the terms of her probation if she remained out of trouble.
Green Rose’ Joins ABS-CBN’s Primetime League Starting on February 14
A local adaptation of the Koreanovela with the same title, “Green Rose” fuses four of the most-admired stars of today—Jericho Rosales, Anne Curtis, Jake Cuenca and Alessandra De Rossi as they portray major roles in the said series.
Jericho, whose last teleserye with ABS-CBN is ‘Dahil May Isang Ikaw’ opposite Kristine Hermosa, will breathe life to the character of Jerome Delgado, a simple man with simple dreams in life. He will do everything to protect his name. “Maganda yung papel ko dito. I can say na this is one of my favorite projects,” Jericho shared.
Meanwhile, Anne, whose last full-series was “The Wedding” back in 2009, is now very excited to play the role of Angela Tuazon, the woman who will fall in love with Jerome Delgado. “Namiss ko maging part ng teleserye talaga. Kaya now that I’m given the chance again, I will definitely do my best,” Anne expressed.
Jericho and Anne were paired in the film “Baler” in 2008 where Anne was nominated three times in separate award-giving bodies under the Best Actress category. On the other hand, Jericho won two Best Actor awards for his effective portrayal in the said movie.
Jake, who was part of the “Rubi” remake, is ecstatic about ABS-CBN’s upcoming primetime series “Green Rose,” “Eversince we started taping for Green Rose, excited na ko na umere yung series dahil, walang bola po, ang ganda ng kwento. Kahit pa part ako ng cast, gusto ko rin mapanood sa primetime ito,” Jake said. Jake is Edward Fuentabella in the series, a man who’s aggressive in achieving his goals even if it means betraying the people who have trusted him.
Alessandra will also be playing a vital part in the series as she portrays the character of Geena Rallos, the woman who’s willing to do anything for the love of Edward. Alessandra was last seen in ‘Wansapanataym’s Cara.’
Jericho, Anne, Jake and Alessandra will be supported by a league of high-caliber actors and actresses– Susan Africa, Ping Medina, Smokey Manaloto, Kitkat, Gardo Versoza, Ricardo Cipeda and Janus del Prado.
Directed by three critically-acclaimed directors in the country, Dondon Santos, Manny Palo and Darnel Joy Villaflor, “Green Rose” is an action-suspense drama that also tackles on a love story tweaked by dangerous factors.
Don’t miss the newest series joining the primetime stable of ABS-CBN, “Green Rose,” premiering on February 14.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez on a beach date
He may be a millionaire, but teen heart-throb Justin Bieber isn't exactly a big spender.
The 16-year-old treated his rumoured new girlfriend Selena Gomez, 18, to a $2 ice cream as they enjoyed a romantic beach date.
The young couple was spotted for the first time publicly holding hands during a stroll down Santa Monica Pier on Monday.
The pop star splashed out on the sweet treat at Soda Jerks during the walk and, according to the receipt, he paid using his very own Mastercard.
The Baby singer previously said his mother, Patti Mallette, has control over his spending.
He said last year: "I don't really have an allowance. When I want to get something I just have to ask my mum."
Bieber and the Wizards of Waverly Place star have previously been coy about their budding romance.
Their hesitation is understandable. Reality star Kim Kardashian received death threats from hundreds of "Beliebers" when she and the Baby singer joked about a mutual crush.
Miley Cyrus' new love?
Miley Cyrus is reportedly dating British actor Joshua Bowman after meeting him on the set of her new movie So Undercover.
"They were inseparable at the movie's wrap up party but Miley's back in Los Angeles at the moment and Joshua's in Louisiana, so they're going to see how it goes," femalefirst.co.uk quoted a source as saying.
Last year, Bowman hit the headlines after he was spotted with Amy Winehouse on the beach in St Lucia.
Christina Aguilera flubs line of national anthem
Texas: Christina Aguilera says she flubbed a line as she belted out the national anthem at the start of the Super Bowl on Sunday night after getting lost in the moment and losing her place.
"I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through," she said in a statement after the performance. When she was supposed to sing the line "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming," she instead repeated an earlier line, with a slight variation.
She sang, "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last reaming," repeating and mangling an earlier lyric, with the word 'watched' instead of 'hailed' and 'reaming' instead of 'gleaming.'
The mistake immediately set social networks abuzz with people commenting on the error. She's not the first person to mess up the lines of "The Star-Spangled Banner." In 2001, Macy Gray was famously booed for her off-kilter rendition of the national anthem. She garbled the words at the Pro Football Hall of Fame exhibition game in Canton, Ohio, her home state.
She later told The Associated Press: "That was definitely life's most embarrassing moment."
And in December in Kansas City before a game between the Chiefs and the Denver Broncos, Mike Eli of the Eli Young Band flubbed up the lines of the song so badly that he had to start over. Aguilera, who took the stage in a black dress, was returning to the Super Bowl after being one of the performers during the halftime show in Atlanta in 2000.
After it was announced that Aguilera would be singing the national anthem for the 2011 Super Bowl, she said in a news release that she had been performing the song since she was 7 and was "excited to be part of such an iconic event."
Friends again
Toni Gonzaga and Mariel Rodriguez have patched up. Gonzaga made the revelation after the photoshoot of her and Rodriguez's new show on ABS CBN, Happy Yipee Yehey."It's all okay now, no details to share except we had a long talk, and we just couldn't bear to let go of so many years of friendship for a petty quarrel," said Gonzaga. The two celebs had a very public spat last year, allegedly due to Rodriguez badmouthing Gonzaga, and causing the latter to lose a big movie project with Robin Padilla.
Lucero's moving on
There seems to be no stopping for celebrities hopping from one TV studio to the next. The last we heard to jump ship from ABS CBN to GMA is Sid Lucero, who is being eyed to star opposite Marian Rivera in the epic series Amaya, a big-budget drama-action series that will be one of GMA's front liners for its primetime programming block. Well-known actors have auditioned but none passed the stringent criteria. Apparently, Lucero fits the role to a T, so it would be interesting if he soon confirms what's already being passed around in the rumour mill as a done deal.
It's raining films for Carla Abellana
Upcoming actress Carla Abellana is very excited these days. Over lunch with producers of Regal Films, Abellana was told what her movie projects would be for this year. "I can't say much yet, but one is a remake of a blockbuster hit in the '70s, and I will be co-starring with some really great actresses. I'm also not at liberty to reveal who they are but the casting will be big," she told tabloid!. The yet-to-be-revealed movie slated for pre-production in May is just one of 12 films Abellana is going to do for the production company. Abellana did one movie last year — the horror flick Shake, Rattle, and Roll 12. One can say without a doubt she is being groomed to be the studio's next queen.
Gain and loss on Angel Locsin
Angel Locsin, the lead actress in TV series Imortal, has been the subject of gossip for her weight gain. When confronted about the issue at a recent press conference, Locsin admitted she has been struggling a lot lately with her weight. "I hope the public doesn't condemn me," she said. "I'm trying to lose with a workout and diet regimen introduced by a friend." The actress also revealed she had been told by her producers to shed some pounds. "I'm lucky I still have the support of my producers and fans. I promise to keep a closer watch on my weight," she added. The actress didn't say what caused her to gain weight, although some say she's in a happy place with a new boyfriend.
'I've let myself down' BARON GEISLER
Baron Geisler promised his family, friends and fans that he is going to "shape up" just before checking into a rehabilitation facility south of Manila.
Geisler says he is aware of how deeply he has become engulfed by alcohol abuse, but admits he has never found the courage to confront his addiction.
Saying "it started with my break-up with Jodi several years back," Baron relates how he started drinking after being ditched by former girlfriend and Tabing Ilog co-star Jodi Sta. Maria in 2002.
"It wasn't uncontrollable," says the actor. "I just felt it was a good escape, but I was always in control of what I was doing."
Despite his growing alcohol abuse, Geisler took his craft seriously and in fact showed flashes of acting brilliance in some of his indie film projects. He won two Best Actor awards from Cinemalaya, the indie film festival in Manila, for Jay (2008), where he played a television reporter, and in Donor (2010), where he portrayed a misogynistic young man who drives his wife to make untold sacrifices.
He has been accused of committing lewd acts against three women, two against fellow stars Yasmin Kurdi and Julia Clarete, and the other against the daughter of former teen star Yayo Aguila. His most recent debacle was when he was accused by award-winning actress Cherry Pie Picache of molesting her during a shoot for Noah, the prime time show in which they both appeared. The powerful association of talent managers, PAMI, stepped in to uphold the protest filed by Picache.
The organisation issued a ban against Geisler. None of their artists would accept a project if the actor was in the cast. "My back was against the wall. I was full of hatred. I didn't molest Cherry Pie. I actually apologised on the set several times, if she felt she had been violated. My pleadings fell on deaf ears," the actor says.
"Actually, hindi naman dahil nagkaroon ng kaso with PAMI. [Actually, it wasn't because PAMI practically banned me]," he says. "Even before this thing happened I was already undergoing treatment for detoxification for 10 days, but it had to be stopped because I was needed in Noah."
In several interviews after PAMI's announcement, Geisler revealed he will finally go for a three-month rehab. "I realize this is my responsibility. I've let my family and supporters down, and I've let myself down. I'm going to shape up and hopefully get better," he adds.
It took a while before Geisler actually got into a facility. In fact, there was a rumor that Baron took the public for a ride — that he wasn't going into rehab after all.
His handler, Arnold Vegafria, denied the accusations. "He has checked into rehab, that's for sure. It just took a while because he had to do lots of tests. Those who do not know should realize there's a whole process to this, so they should stop the rumor-mongering and give the guy a break," he said.

Richie Paul Gutierrez, the leading man
Very present ang mga Gutierrez sa showbiz industry ngayon, and the youngest of them, Ritchie Paul Gutierrez, is on his way to making his name just as known as his other siblings’. Sa kanyang show na Alakdana, Ritchie Paul stars in his first leading man role alongside Louise delos Reyes.
Does this mean na mas seryoso na siya sa pag-pursue ng kanyang acting career, and he will be focusing on it more than his aspirations sa music industry?
“I’m always serious about it,” shares Ritchie Paul. “Just go do, learn of the craft, you know, you get more tips, you get better, so that’s what I’m trying to do.”
It’s no secret that his parents and his siblings have had successful careers in showbiz, and are some of the most respected artists to this day.
“Stay focused, do your best.””Stay focused, be positive, be friendly to everyone.”
Kailangan magaling kami,” he shares.
But of course, part of being in showbiz is having your private life scrutinized by the public eye. Is he ready for this kind of a challenge?
“Yung buhay ko is private. Kumbaga, yung private life ko, i-respect sana ng mga tao,””Pero pina-promise ko na gagalingan ko sa show, that I’m gonna do my best in whatever work I do.”
Abangan si Ritchie Paul sa Alakdana sa Dramarama sa Hapon ng GMA.

Tirso Cruz III, Cross Dresser in I Heart You Pare!
